Morgan Neering

8 a.m. in September
 
Barefoot on the stairs, coffee brewing
your feet move gently down each step
then stop
stand at eight in the morning listening
while the house hums its amber-hued melody.
 
All the windows are open and light
moves softly through them
filtering
drowsily, dreamily
like the lazy cat draped across your lap
time drifts unhurried, a languid
ebbing flow
you can hear it
in the way the flowers breathe.

Born and raised in small town USA- Morgan Neering is an American writer and poet living in France. Her work explores themes of nostalgia and self-discovery, and can be found in various literary journals such as 34th Parallel, Creation Magazine, and The Curie Review.
