1. What is the most important advice you have been given as a writer?
One of the most important pieces of advice that comes to mind is by Richard Bausch: "Keep to the sense of this day's work. One question at the end of the day: Did I work? If the answer is yes, no other questions."
2. How important is revision in your creation process?
Revision is crucial. I probably do more than is good for me. I also try to keep in mind that at some point, I'm not improving the flow of the language, I'm just moving words around.
3. If you were dropped on a deserted island with only one book, which book would it be and why?
If dropped on a desert island what book would I take? Hard question to answer because I'm a voracious reader and have many, many favorites. But on a desert island? I choose poetry, because it's timeless, and I'll go with Barbara Crooker's, "Gold," because, "She is the bird that stays to sing throughout the night when all the others have left for winter." (Paul J. Willis)
