Interview with Artist W. Jack Savage
1. What feelings are you trying to evoke in the viewer with your painting “Autumn”?
In my mind, there are commonalities between all living creatures. A sense of wonder at the beauty of a tree at sunset can belong to a dog as well as a man.
2. What advice would you give people who wish to learn how to paint but maybe aren’t sure where to start?
If you wish to paint, to create, just do it. If you're more comfortable taking a class to begin with, fine but all they teach you is how to paint like someone else. Begin losing that knowledge and create your own art as soon as you can. And this is most important: Andy Warhol said it best: "Don't worry if your art is any good. Let other people do that. As an artist your job is to create art and then create more art."
3. If you could ask an artist to paint you (either present or past), who would it be and why?
Pablo Picasso, because while my face may not lend itself to caricature, my life certainly does.
