Driving along wooded roads,
a cardinal flies before me.
 
Deep within,
a flutter of good fortune,
a knowing,
stirs, awakens.
 
“What if?”
I query no one in particular,
“What if it were so?”
 
Recognizing this flutter,
this intuition,
I pause to sense its presence,
almost imperceptible, yet powerful,
guiding me on my way….



Wendy K. Mages, a Professor at Mercy College, is a storyteller and educator with a doctorate in Human Development and Psychology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a master’s in Theatre from Northwestern.
